About Me

During his teenage years in Brora, Garry had his sights set on life as rock’n’roll drummer*. A bit like Elvis in Guitar Man (though with a drum-kit, not a guitar), Garry relocated from the Scottish Highlands to Glasgow in search of a band. Little did he know though, that despite success making and performing music, his career would eventually lie in the ‘snaps’ he’d been taking on his camera phone.

The Camera Phone Days (as they’re referred to fondly) are long gone. Over the last six years, Garry has gone on to develop a strong and varied professional photography portfolio across fashion, music, portraiture and art. You may have seen his work published in independent titles such as Slave Magazine, Milkcow and Fiasco among others. Over the years Garry has established an exciting network of like-minded collaborators and continues to expand an impressive catalogue of corporate & creative clients. He runs a shared photography studio in a secret cul-de-sac in Glasgow’s west-end and he’s even managed to bag himself a BA in Photography in between times.

In tandem with his professional work, Garry (or YHFphoto as he’s sometimes known) always has one or two personal art projects in development. Garry’s exhibition debut, ‘Uninvited’, (a joint project with friend and fellow robot enthusiast Neil Slorance), was celebrated at Che Camille’s then loft gallery/showroom in Glasgow in Spring 2009. Since then, he has shown a variety of work in some unusual locations; in the city’s tiniest gallery, at a grand film house in Edinburgh, in a fancy window display and on the walls of a super-swank hotel. Garry is currently hosting his first online exhibit and will be hosting a series of events in Autumn/Winter 2011.

*Garry is still a rock’n’roll drummer. His band is called Schnapps.
